| Education Sparkling City Light Opera firmly believes that the arts, specifically opera, enrich the lives of those who are given the opportunity to experience, live, and enjoy them. It is our goal to make opera accessible to all audiences with a special interest in children and education. Light Opera in the Classroom introduces children to the world of opera through an array of engaging, age-appropriate works. With curricular connections to music, theater, dance, visual arts, history, literature and foreign language, opera provides a unique and lively way to engage and educate students and teachers both inside and outside the classroom. Statistics show that students engaged in fine arts increase their potential for self-discovery, their socialization and problem-solving skills, have a better understanding of their world, and stay in school longer. Learning and experiencing opera teaches tolerance and understanding of other cultures, develops an appreciation for the arts, and stimulates the imagination. Each summer, SCLO will conduct a Vocal Arts Workshop for young singers (ages 15-21). The Vocal Arts Workshop is a 2-week professional development seminar for young singers interested in pursuing a career in Vocal Performance or Musical Theater. Participants are selected after completing an application and vocal audition. During the 2 week workshop, each participant receives extensive training in private voice lessons, coachings, master classes, dance, drama, business development, dramatic interpretation, and audience connection. The workshop features renowned faculty and guest artists from all TX. Past faculty members include; Kelly Balmaceda, Chrisi Carter, Dr. Raphael Rada, Corey Ranson, Flicka Rahn (TAMUCC), Dr. Sam Mungo (TX State University), and Dr. Sharon Radionoff (TX Voice Center, Houston TX). | |
